Wow, I can't believe I just posted for the last time! This class has gone so fast. Probably for the fact that it was soo enjoyable. I really did like this class and I learned a lot from reading everyone's posts. I gained new and different perspectives than what my original thoughts were. Sometimes having an open mind leads you to experience many different roads. I really liked that we read books from different genres to expand our thinking. I think that the variety made the class fun and was why I enjoyed it so much. I remember other classes that required me to read books from the same genre and it got so tiring-and then I grew to dislike it because that's all we talked about. So, good job Dr. Hochenauer. You have another fan!

This was kind of a fun, yet frustrating week of reading. The book was very hard to get into and frustrating to understand. But, it was fun because we could all relate to each other. Reading about the characters was a challenge, but that's what makes the book unique. Not every book is going to be smooth sailing. Some books require deep thought and that higher level thinking.

Women's Rights
Random thought, but I was just watching Cold Case and the episode was about women's rights. It reminded me of the women in the "The Dead". They planned parties even though they weren't allowed and had a ball. However, part of the case, was during one of the parties, they got caught and were taken to jail. The daughter of the mom hosting the party fought for her rights and got into an argument with her mom-who after being caught, decided to play it safe and shy down. Her daughter wanted to run down to the jail to get all the other women out, but she ended up dying before she got there. It was very interesting to see it before my eyes, and it was clearer to me (because I learn with visuals). It made sense and the women really did have to keep quiet and keep to themselves if they wanted their husbands or dads to continue providing for them. If they rebelled, the father would disown them. They took it extremely seriously. I really feel bad for them.

Thinking
I've been trying to think what to post about, things are getting kind of repetitive, but here goes. I really enjoyed looking at a different character in Great Expectations and not just focusing on the main characters. Looking at someone new gave me a fresh look at things and a new view. When I see two main characters, I base everything about the book on those people. However, bringing light to a new, smaller character and seeing what their contribution and how their character was different brought a whole new meaning to the book. It's like one of those movies where they make a knock-off and base it off of the villain or the smaller character and you see the story from a different angle. Good idea!

Great Expectations
I am really enjoying these last couple weeks of posts. I really like this book and enjoy bringing out some various discussions about the characters, the themes, morality, etc. It's not one of those books that has just one theme going through it, you can see the many dimensions of the book and how the author tries to relate it to the modern era. It's fascinating and look forward to what's next.

Random
I will admit right now that I have proven myself wrong. I like internet classes, once you get the hang of it. Wish I did more. The discussions and this last essay forced me to think outside of the box. I couldn't just go off of what I knew, I had to do some research. This class has really forced me to go beyond the text into what it truly means. There's something different in each text.

The Goblin Market
I really did like the poem about the two sisters and finding the real happiness and richness of life in what you make of it. You really can't take a short-cut to finding wealth. It comes through experience and life. It won't come to you. At least, the real wealth in this world won't come to you. We have to find it and put effort into it. The poem makes a good point.

Transitioning
Discovering a little bit more about Frankenstein brought up some new points to my mind and encouraged me to think a little deeper about the story. I am also very excited about the Victorian Age and learning more about the British era. I have seen movies from the British era and they have always been fascinating to me. I look forward to the next few weeks. ;)

The first essay really challenged me to dig deeper than just the surface and seeing a picture in my mind. It was fun for me in analyzing it and trying to find where exactly the pieces I chose were connected to the romance period. It definitely stretched my mind and I learned a few things. In a way poetry is like music. The music artists writes what inspires him and the poet writes what inspires his soul.

Frustrated-Feb. 4
I honestly don't remember a time when I was this frustrated with technology. I love the class, but I guess I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I wish someone had given me something internet courses on what I should know. I think I have discovered everything by now and have enjoyed posting and discussing. But, it's been an adventure. Things can only go up from here.
